NIMASA 2017 – World Maritime Day Essay Competition | Requirements

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is out with an Essay Competition to recall the World Maritime Day for this year 2017. For candidates who are interested in the World Maritime Day Essay Competition Should read this article carefully to get the requirements needed to participate.

The world Maritime Day is also recalled to create awareness of great opportunities in the Maritime sector. So with this, the Agency wants to do it in Essay Writing in other to touch other lives who might be interested.

The Essay Topic is: CONNECTING SHIPS, PORTS AND PEOPLE, Which is in Line with the theme For the 2017 celebration.

There are Lots of Prizes and awards to be won. See them below.

  • 1st position: N500,000 Education Grant plus a Laptop & a plaque + Publication of the winning essay in NIMASA’s magazine, The VOYAGE & the NIMASA website.
  • 2nd Position: N350,000 Education Grant plus a Laptop & a plaque
  • 3rd Position: N250,000 Education Grant plus a laptop & a plaque
  • Seven (7) Consolation Awards of N100,000 Education Grant each

NIMASA 2017 – World Maritime Day Essay Competition


Below are the requirements/participants that can participate  in the competition

  1. Students in Year 1 and 2 in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.
  2. Participants must note that they are required to scan proof of being bonafide students alongside their essays.
  3. Proof will include Letters of Admission & Identity Cards of the Institution.

How to Apply

Interested and qualified applicants should forward their Essays to: and

Note the following:

  1. The topic for the essay competition should be the subject matter
  2. Essays should be a maximum of 1,200 words [+ or – 10%] double spaced in Ms word and font size 12
  3. No collaboration or joint work is allowed
  4. No plagiarism, in whole or part, will be acceptable
  5. Essays should end with the name, telephone number and email address of the participant
  6. Essays that do not Follow the guidelines will be disregarded
  7. Only successful participants wilt be contacted.
  8. No essay will be accepted outside the closing date the competition
